It’s Like a Birth Announcement, but for a Blog

Lately, while reading blogs written by Catholics, Evangelicals, and Mormons, I can’t help feeling that there ought to be more Lutheran women online. We should be there in the blogosphere, writing about life from a Law and Gospel perspective. We should be answering each other’s questions. We should be encouraging each other in our respective vocations.

After all, we Lutherans have a lot to offer. We are theological. We live under grace. We tend to view the world through a mixture of pragmatism and principle that is quite different from the sentimentalism and liberalism that can afflict other Christian traditions. We have cool church music. Yet in today’s mobile society, we do not always have a chance to hear the wisdom of other Lutheran women’s experiences (or even just the opportunity to laugh with each other at the craziness of life).

That is the kind of community that this site will attempt to provide.

Here is our official description:

Sister, Daughter, Mother, Wife is an online source of Lutheran encouragement, community, and advice. This is where you can find discussions of relationships in a Law and Gospel context. Topics range from living the single life, to building cross-generational friendships, to teaching children to behave respectfully in church.

I am delighted to say that a number of intelligent, confessional Lutheran women are planning to write articles that will appear here. If you, too, are interested in doing so, take a look at our submission guidelines. It’s a lot easier than trying to run an entire blog of your own! Or, should you already have one, it’s a way to get a free link to your blog. Whether or not you want to share an article, I hope that you will come back and read the posts that will be coming out at least once a week. We look forward to hearing your thoughts in the comments section.

What kinds of topics would you like to hear about?

    1. Great topic idea. I'm currently working on an article which might qualify as coming under that heading, so stay tuned. Feel free to share ideas about specific aspects of faith and culture (you can always e-mail, if you prefer: see our contact info at the top).

  6. Lovely! I'm a Lutheran woman blogger, and I agree there are too few Lutherans here in the blogosphere. But we are clearly growing! Yours is the second new Lutheran blog I've found and started following this year, which is awesome.

I may be interested in contributing here at some point -- when I have something to say that I feel would be a good fit! :-)

    1. Sounds good! I look forward to reading what you have to say. Out of curiosity, what is the other blog (I'd love to discover it if I haven't already)?

    2. It's called Alien Righteousnes (go here to read it), and it's a group blog written by a whole bunch of Lutheran guys, many/most of them pastors. I know one of them, which is how I started reading it. Lots of theology and interesting stuff to think about.
