We periodically introduce new bedtime songs to our children (usually hymn verses), and the latest one is the Phos Hilaron, or "Hymn of Light" from Evening Prayer. My five-year old can sing it all by herself- "Joyous light of glory of the immortal Father, heavenly, holy, blessed Jesus Christ..." It's amazing to see how quickly children pick up on the rich vocabulary of hymns, prayers, and catechism explanations. And you're absolutely right- the sooner they are introduced to this language the more they will be able to speak it themselves as they grow and mature. Thank you for the beautiful reminder!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9196316261585940971.post-68198201723198048902014-04-16T18:18:32.410-07:002014-04-16T18:18:32.410-07:00I sang Jesus Loves Me to my baby daughter. They walked her to the front and held a microphone to let her share the beautiful song — a day I will never forget. Thanks for writing this post. It is never too early to share the Word with children. They participate in worship even in the womb.Elizabeth Knaushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08800681495731860140noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9196316261585940971.post-22520075278158768592014-04-16T09:01:17.782-07:002014-04-16T09:01:17.782-07:00more about the language of luther…: http://ergofab...more about the language of luther…: http://ergofabulous.org/luther/PhyshBournehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10799018261032447816noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9196316261585940971.post-45762184198536044622014-04-16T06:15:14.823-07:002014-04-16T06:15:14.823-07:00Allison, Thanks so much for writing this! Since reading it, I've found myself thinking about the songs and chants that I use with my little guy, and trying to figure out how to incorporate more sacred language instead of just sticking with, "She'll be comin' round the mountain."Anna Mussmannhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11631139113615066986noreply@blogger.com
